CEN ETSI Workshop on Community Specifications

ETSI Technical Committee Aeronautics (TC AERO) and CEN Project Committee Air Traffic Management (TC 377) have been established to develop Community Specifications under the Single European Sky (SES) Interoperability Regulation (EC 552/2004 as amended). The aim of this Regulation is to achieve interoperability between the different systems, constituents and associated procedures in the European Air Traffic Management Network (EATMN) and to ensure the introduction of new agreed and validated concepts of operations and technology in Air Traffic Management (ATM).

The European Standardization Organizations, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, together with EASA, Eurocae, Eurocontrol and the European Commission organized a first workshop on standardization activities in the area of air traffic management and the process of development of Community Specifications under the Interoperability Regulation in December 2008.

Following on from several years of activities in this domain and work under different mandates (M/390, M/408 and M/438) from the European Commission, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)  and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) with  the coordination of the Air Traffic Management Standards Coordination Group (ATMSCG) organized a second workshop to continue to raise awareness about the standardization activities, describe the involved processes, and draw conclusions from the past experiences of producing Community Specifications under the SES Interoperability Regulation.

The ETSI-CEN workshop saw speakers from ESOs, ATMSCG, EC, ICB IOP, Eurocae, Eurocontrol, EASA, SJU, ICAO and took place on 17 March 2011 in Brussels (Belgium) at CEN Premises. nearly 60 people attended this event.
